True astrology doesn’t bear any resemblance to the horoscopes you read in the magazines, daily papers etc. So for all those who find it hard to take astrology seriously and call it ‘mumbo jumbo’, try to understand that what is written in the magazines and daily papers isn’t tailored for specific individuals but for whole sections of people, en masse. Lots of people are convinced that what they read in the daily papers, magazines etc. relates to them and it’s possible it does, if they are very strongly in tune with their particular sign of the zodiac but for most of us, there may be the odd time when we can relate but on the whole it is meaningless ‘mumbo jumbo’!! Every now and then there is a lot of excitement about a particular planet and lots of speculation on how it’s going to affect each of us. This is because some of the planets are known as the ‘outer’ planets and move very slowly and unlike the Sun, which moves into a different sign every month, these planets can take up to a year (and longer) to move from one sign of the zodiac and into another. The planets that affect us most on a daily basis are what are known as the ‘personality planets’ and they are the Sun (which is a star), Moon (the Moon isn’t a planet but is still included as its effect on us is very potent), Mercury and Venus. In comparison to the ‘outer planets’ i.e. Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, these ‘personality planets’ are fairly fast moving and it’s the ripple effect of their movement throughout the universe that creates the effect they have on us. Everything in the universe is energy. Everything can be looked under a microscope and broken down into molecules and beyond that into atoms, and everything is under the influence of the Law of Cause and Effect. The Law of Cause and Effect means simply that for every action (within the universe) there is an opposite and equal reaction. This isn’t mumbo jumbo – this is science, and everyone loves a bit of science because it can be measured and analysed (or so we like to think)!! The debate over whether the world (and us) was created by a Master Creator or are we the product of Evolution still continues. Scientists haven’t been able to produce hard and fast evidence because if they had, then the argument would be over! And it isn’t. So, back to astrology. The planets revolve around the Sun in roughly circular orbits and they all travel at different speeds. For example Mars takes about 687 days and Pluto takes around 248 years to complete an entire orbit. And in the same way they rotate in a slightly different way from each other and complete an entire orbit around the Sun at different speeds – the ripple effect of their energy is what determines the different way they have an impact on us. How does it work and how can planets (and the Moon) which are millions of miles away have an affect on us? Well each planet moves in a different way and it’s that effect that affects each of us. It is well known that the Moon governs our tides and as we are made up largely of water, that same influence that pulls on our tides, pulls on us internally as well. How much we are affected by the Moon and her influence is measured by how we as individuals react and respond on an emotional level. The Moon moves rapidly during a 24 hour period and in the same way so do our moods change. Whether we are a moody person or not depends again on how strongly we are affected by the Moon and we can get much information by studying our individual birthcharts. Mercury is the planet closest to the Sun and is known as the Messenger. Its fast movement can be aligned to our ability to think and adapt to changing circumstances. The outer planets, however, like Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto move much, much slower and they are known as generational planets because their impact affects whole generations of people born within a particular time span. For example, whereas the Moon moves rapidly during a 24 hour period, it can take Saturn 29 years to move from one sign of the zodiac and back to the same position again after completing a complete circuit. The planets can move backwards as well as forwards and there are periods of time when they are classed as stationary and in Saturn’s example, Saturn can remain in a motionless state for up to 8 weeks. This is why everyone gets excited and the magazines and papers write articles on the impact a moving planet can have on us. It can take Saturn around 2 and a half years to move from one sign of the zodiac to another in comparison to the Sun which moves from one sign and into another within a month. So, on a daily basis the only movement that has really occurred comes from the Moon and Mercury and Venus and then the movement can be minimal. The relationship each of the planets has with each other also affects us. As the planets move, so the angle between them alters and that also has some bearing on whether the planets energies jar with one another or are compatible. Astrologers use this information to help them interpret the impact the planets are going to have on us as well. When we are born the planets are all in a set position for that particular time. Where they are placed is what is shown within our birthcharts (horoscope) and what is used to interpret areas of ease or difficulty the individual is likely to face during their lifetime. So, if you can understand why the Moon has an effect on us as well as the tides, then try to expand that line of thought to recognising that even though the other stars and planets are a very long way from us, the waves of their energy do, in some way, reach us and its through astrology that we can get a very good idea of who we really are (by looking at the different ways we are affected and in the different areas of life) and how to use our strengths (often unknown by us and laying dormant) to overcome our weaknesses. see also Astrology / Tarot and Astrology & Tarot Workshop Workshops / Subconscious / Tarot / 6th Sense / Living the Qabalah / Relationships |
